What Is A Water Well “Flow Rate”?

The flow rate is a term well professionals use when evaluating a well’s water supply and refers to the amount of water coming from the well. The flow rate measures the gallons per minute being pumped from the well. The average American household needs 100 to 120 gallons per person per day, and a flow rate of about 6 to 12 gallons per minute. This requirement may be higher if it serves a home housing a large family or there are large water demands.

Some properties need a large amount of water for outdoor use as well, like for watering animals or large gardens. If that is the case, this amount may not be enough to meet the home’s needs, which is why well professionals may recommend a minimum flow rate of 5 gallons per minute or more.

Purity Tests:

The state of Oregon requires a test for arsenic, nitrate, and total coliform bacteria to be performed on all sales or exchanges of real-estate with a domestic well. Well Testing Pricing:

• Bacteria, Nitrate, and Arsenic test only: $275.00

• 1 Hour Well Flow Test, no pump puller or extra equipment required, testing flow from the same water source delivered by the well pump: $300.00

  • +Bacteria, Nitrate, and Arsenic: $525.00*

• 1 Hour Well Flow Test requiring a pump puller to lift the well and test the water: $400.00

  • +Bacteria, Nitrate, and Arsenic: $600.00*

• 4 Hour Well Flow Test, no pump puller or extra equipment required, testing flow from the same water source delivered by the well pump: $450.00

  • +Bacteria, Nitrate, and Arsenic: $625.00*

• 4 Hour Well Flow Test requiring a pump puller to lift the well and test water: $625.00

  • +Bacteria, Nitrate, and Arsenic: $845.00*

• The Lab requires 7 to 10 business days to complete tests. Our schedule averages 5 to 7 business days to complete the test, possibly more during spring start ups and fall winterizations. Please plan accordingly. The lab offers a rush fee to complete tests in 3 to 5 business days for an additional $225.00.

• Test for Lead only: $265.00

• Test for Lead in addition to the Bacteria, Nitrate, and Arsenic: $125.00*

• Any Additional Hour Flow add $115.00 for each hour.

• Payment is required in full before test results will be released.

• Prices are subject to change without notice.

  *Done at the same time as the Flow Test with one trip to the property.

  *To divide the $525 total for two payees is $260.00 for the Flow Test and $265.00 for the Water Analysis.
